Here is our David and Goliath battle we are facing. HSUS and other like minded anti-hunting organizations are pursuing a ban on hunting Mountain Lion and Bobcat. The message to the voter is this:
"THE VOTERS OF COLORADO FIND AND DECLARE THAT ANY TROPHY HUNTING OF MOUNTAIN LIONS,
BOBCATS, OR LYNX IS INHUMANE, SERVES NO SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE OR ECOLOGICALLY BENEFICIAL
PURPOSE, AND FAILS TO FURTHER PUBLIC SAFETY. TROPHY HUNTING IS PRACTICED PRIMARILY FOR
THE DISPLAY OF AN ANIMAL’S HEAD, FUR, OR OTHER BODY PARTS, RATHER THAN FOR UTILIZATION OF
THE MEAT. MOREOVER, IT IS ALMOST ALWAYS CONDUCTED BY UNSPORTING MEANS, INCLUDING, BUT
NOT LIMITED TO, USING PACKS OF DOGS WITH ELECTRONIC DEVICES TO PURSUE AND ENTRAP
AFFECTED ANIMALS IN PLACES FROM WHICH THEY CANNOT ESCAPE IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE KILL.
THEREFORE, IT IS APPROPRIATE AND NECESSARY TO BAN TROPHY HUNTING OF MOUNTAIN LIONS,
BOBCATS, AND LYNX IN COLORADO."
We as houndsmen know this statement is false and fear mongering at its core. We understand that ethical management of these species is crucial to our ungulate populations. We also understand that management of Mountain Lions and Bobcats is widely beneficial to reducing the effects of human and wildlife conflicts whether it be for livestock sake or direct threat from these animals. Please moving forward know and understand your interactions online and with the folks you talk to. We are stewards of conservation and should do our absolute best to be respectful and conscience of what we say and how we say it.
